During this free late opening of Avril Corroon and Amy Steel, a showcase exhibition of two artists completing Acme’s early career programme at Peer, Oisín McKenna read excerpts from his novel in development, Evenings and Weekends, which drew parallels to Avril’s work on show in the exhibition. The readings took place within the exhibition space.

Both McKenna and Corroon’s past works examine capitalism and the pressures of city living through critique and humour. A nutri-bullet blender becomes McKenna’s assured way to self betterment, as sport car ownership suggests compensatory status in Corroon’s artwork.


BIOGRAPHIES

Artist Avril Corroon works across moving image, performance, and sculpture to examine contemporary precarious living conditions including the housing crisis, wealth inequity, and labour exploitation. Her work combines absurd humour and critique to form visual narratives, often incorporating ephemeral materials such as fragrances, sticky floors, damp and leftover food.

Oisín McKenna is an award-winning writer and artist, working in theatre, video, comedy and fiction. He makes work about love, money, health and history. He’s interested in the ways that political, economic and social conditions shape how we act, think, and feel at particular places and times. He’s presented work at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, The Glory, Dublin Theatre Festival, Dublin Fringe Festival, Electric Picnic, Body&Soul, Life Festival, Lingo Festival, and many other platforms.
