On 14 September from 3–6pm, Peer Ambassadors hosted a public sharing and celebration of Saplings After the Forest Fire, a series of work they produced alongside the Peer Ambassador Artist in Residence, Meera Shakti Osborne.
Over a six-month period, Meera and the 2023–2024 cohort of Ambassadors developed a series of works that focused on themes of resilience, renewal and the Ambassadors’ hopes for the future. The cohort produced a large-scale collage using a series of analogue photography overlaid with free-hand sketches, and zines featuring works produced in sessions with Meera.
In collaboration with Gary Stewart and Aniruddha Das, the Ambassadors also developed a collective soundscape which further expanded upon the themes discussed. A series of readings and performances by the Ambassadors took place at 4pm.
While the Peer Ambassadors’ takeover of the gallery, Saplings Amongst Thorns, explored themes of hope and perseverance in the midst of uncertain landscapes, Saplings After the Forest Fire concluded this investigation by celebrating the importance of creation and collaboration as a means of fostering resilience.
All attendees were invited to bring a dish to share as part of a pot luck.
