Actor, musician and voiceover artist, Alex Wingfield lead a workshop that focused on the voice as a way of sharing knowledge in response to Moi Tran’s exhibition Civic Sound Archive. Using movement, voice exercises and open discussion, Alex encouraged participants to harness the potential of their voice and share a song, poem, sound or story, to be included in the Civic Sound Archive.
This event was part of the public presentation of Civic Sound Archive at Peer, on show from 1 July – 3 September 2022. The Civic Sound Archive was an unruly, anecdotal repository for sonic expression as personal testimony, celebrating the joy of poor acoustics and fleeting sonic encounters that are often devalued within traditional archival methods. The project was an ongoing process of knowledge-making that uses sound to map personal experience and celebrates the power of archival practice in marginal spaces.
